Privacy and cookies
In short: visits are counted without cookies, no data is sold, and personalised ads appear only if you consent.
Who is responsible for the data
- Animorio is a project by Luca Salvemini, the controller of personal data.
- For any privacy question or request, write to lukesalvemini@gmail.com.
What the site collects
- Visits. They are counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics, without cookies and without recognising you from one visit to the next: page viewed, referring site, browser and device type, country and loading times, shown only as totals.
- How the site is used. Animorio also counts on its own, without cookies, the pages you open, how long they stay visible and how far you scroll, the site you come from, a few actions (code copied, zips downloaded, commands for Claude copied, the words you search for in the library), your country and device type. To tell one person from another it derives from the IP address and the browser a code that lasts one day: the IP address is not stored and the code cannot be worked out again the next day. The same counts apply to pages opened by an AI assistant and to the Claude connector.
- Requests to the site. Cloudflare, which delivers the pages, receives like any server the IP address, the page requested, the date and the browser, and uses them to run the site and protect it from attacks.
- Your account, if you have one. Email, password (stored in a form that cannot be read), preferred language, date of sign-up and of the last sign-in, and the animations you heart (your favourites, with the date).
- If you sign in with Google. Google gives us the name, email and profile picture of your Google account. We never see your Google password.
- The Claude connector. It counts anonymously how often it is used, by which type of program and with which tool, with the same one-day code as visits. It does not store IP addresses or the text of requests.
- Emails you send. The address and the message, to reply to you.
- Requests from the “Ask away” form. What you write (the animation you are after, the addresses of sites, what caught your eye), the language and the page you send it from. The form asks for neither your email nor your name. Requests reach Luca Salvemini by email: the site does not keep them.
- Ads. On the pages where they appear, Google AdSense collects through its cookies the data needed to show and measure ads, and only with your consent the data needed to personalise them.
Why, and on what basis
- Delivering the site, protecting it and counting visits anonymously: legitimate interest in running and improving Animorio (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- Your account: the service you ask for by signing up (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- Emails: your request, which needs an answer (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- Form requests: choosing the next animations and journal articles (legitimate interest, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- Personalised ads: your consent, which you give or refuse in Google’s consent message on your first visit and can withdraw at any time (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR).
- Animorio does not sell data and does not use it for anything else.
Who processes it for Animorio
- Cloudflare, Inc. Delivery and protection of the site, visit counting, sending form requests by email. Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
- Google. Gmail, the mailbox where emails and form requests arrive. Google’s privacy policy.
- Supabase, Inc. Accounts and the connector count. Supabase’s privacy policy.
- Google LLC. Signing in with Google, if you choose it. Google’s privacy policy.
- jsDelivr. The demos load GSAP and fonts from cdn.jsdelivr.net, so your browser connects to its servers, which receive your IP address like any website. jsDelivr’s privacy policy.
- Google Ireland Limited. Google AdSense ads. How Google uses data from sites that use its services.
- Some of these providers are based in the United States: data reaches them with the safeguards required by the GDPR, that is the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
Cookies and browser storage
- Animorio does not set cookies of its own. The only third-party cookies are those of the ads, on the pages where they appear, as explained below; Cloudflare may use strictly necessary security cookies when it needs to recognise automated traffic.
- In browser storage (localStorage and sessionStorage) the site keeps only technical things, which stay in your browser: the language you chose (animorio-lingua), your account session if you sign in (mv-conto), the email of the last account signed in from this browser and how (mv-conto-ultimo, to reopen the form with your email filled in and, if the browser saved your password and you allow it, to sign you back in on its own), a copy of your favourites (mv-preferite, to show them straight away) and the heart you tapped before signing in (mv-cuore-attesa, only until you sign in), the changes you make in the Playground and the width of its panel (mv-campo), whether you have already seen the opening animation (mv-visto, mv-passaggio), the name of the site you came from when the site takes you to the other language (animorio-provenienza, only until the next page), and whether you asked not to be counted (animorio-non-contarmi, by opening the site with ?noncontarmi; ?contami removes it).
- The ads are served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on prior visits to this and other websites; advertising cookies enable Google and its partners to serve ads based on those visits. Personalised ads appear only if you accept them in the cookie banner.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google’s Ads Settings, and out of other vendors’ on youronlinechoices.com.
- Ads are not switched on yet: the site uses no advertising cookies. When they are, Google’s consent message, a consent management platform certified by Google, will appear on your first visit, and cookies for personalised ads will only start after your choice.
- You can delete all of it at any time from your browser settings.
How long
- Your account stays as long as it exists. If you ask to delete it, the data is gone within a month.
- Visits counted by Cloudflare are kept only as totals, with nothing that identifies you. Those counted by the site are kept in detail (pages, times, actions, with the one-day code) for 35 days, then deleted.
- Requests to the site stay with Cloudflare for the short time security requires.
- Emails, for as long as it takes to reply. Form requests, for as long as it takes to consider them.
Your rights
- You can ask to see your data, correct it, delete it, restrict its use, receive it in a readable format and object to its processing: just write to lukesalvemini@gmail.com. You will get an answer within a month.
- You can withdraw your consent to personalised ads at any time, with no effect on the rest of the site.
- If you think your data is being mishandled, you can complain to your data protection authority; in Italy it is the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.
Updates
